Mission

A life time of learning begins at Lawrence Day School!

Description:
Philosophy
Based on Reggio Emilio philosophy, we believe children have a hundred languages to express themselves, and they want to use them all. They learn very soon how difficult it is for this right to be recognized and above all respected. This is why children ask us to be their allies in resisting hostile pressures and defending spaces for creative freedom which, in the end, are also spaces of joy, trust, and solidarity.
We believe that children are by nature curious and eager learners. We believe that young child should not be forced but express their ideas with guided free-will.
Children learn best when they experience their environment first hand. It is their direct exposure in the world with the people, places and objects at hand that spark their innate desire to “find out”, “figure out”, or otherwise solve problems that present themselves through the course of everyday events. Teachers provide the expert guidance and support for “knowing” how things work.

LDS is identified as warm and welcome place to come while caring for a young child. Our Center provides safe and creative activities for young children. Caregivers and children participate in programs devoted to art, music, drama and developmental activities. Caregivers and children can play and be entertained in meaningful ways. Our Centers provide a place within the community where families can enjoy quality time together and apart.
