Operation Shoebox New Jersey is a registered non-profit New Jersey corporation, an all-volunteer, grass roots organization based in Somerset County dedicated to collecting donated goods like soap, toothpaste, snacks and canned fruit and raising funds to ship care packages to US troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and other overseas posts.
History:
Since its inception in February, 2005, Operation Shoebox New Jersey has staged several high profile packaging and shipping events; to date, volunteers have raised over $150,000, and sent 18,000 packages overseas. Thousands of Girl Scouts, high school and elementary school students have written letters which are enclosed in the packages sent to the soldiers. Volunteers range in age from just a few years old, to senior citizens. We collect donated goods outside supermarkets and at drop-off points in Somerset and Hunterdon counties. Senior citizen clubs, veterans organizations, schools, civic groups and families continue to support the organization by sponsoring various fund raising activities. We also solicit financial contributions, as each package shipped costs $8.95. All financial contributions are tax-deductible.
