Enable, Inc. is an agency devoted to supporting individuals with disabilities to live full and independent lives. Enable promotes individual choice that reflects what is meaningful to each person served and his or her family. It provides services, supports, programs, and living arrangements that facilitate full inclusion into community life. These include group homes, in-home services, and services that provide relief for caregivers.
Description:
Enable affirms these values: We support each person’s dignity and individuality. We respond to individual needs and preferences with support. To the extent possible, we will individualize our services and work to accommodate the feelings and special service needs of persons served and their families. We believe in customer service. We believe building relationships that lead to acceptance and respect are the foundation of how we work with one another at Enable. Staff believe that being positive, respectful, caring, patient, and trustworthy is the way to interact with each person we serve. We believe this is also important in how we and those we serve relate to other family members, community members, and other staff. We focus on the capabilities of individuals with disabilities. These capabilities can be interests, preferences, attributes or gifts that create opportunities for participation in community life. Everyone has something to give. We respect and maintain the confidentiality of all those we serve. No matter what the size of our agency, we will offer services with “a small agency feel.” Those we serve will always be known by name, will receive personalized attention, and, as staff, we commit to being a stable workforce with low turnover. Enable believes each staff person is important to providing quality service. Employees will be knowledgeable and well trained. Family members are always welcome at Enable. Enable commits to striving for good health and fitness for all we serve. We will do our best to provide special activities or connect those we serve with activities that suit their needs.
History:
Enable began as an affiliate of United Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey in 1989. In order to serve individuals who had disabilities other than cerebral palsy, and to expand into a greater geographic area, the Board of Trustees decided to become an independent non-profit agency in 1994 with the new name of Enable. Enable then began to develop programs for persons and their families with cognitive and/or physical disabilities. Enable has grown through the years and now offers a variety of community based programs that promote inclusion, independence, safety and improved quality of life for individuals with disabilities in our communities.
