The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most,to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We envision that one day all youth in the Capitol Area will have reasonable access to a Boys & Girls Clubs.
Description:
The Boys & Girls Clubs provides a comprehensive year-round program in seven locations in Wake County. Our organization works to enable youth to develop the skills to be responsible citizens and leaders through programs that help members succeed in school, stay healthy, learn leadership skills, and pursue interest in the arts and sports.
History:
The Boys & Girls Clubs opened in Raleigh in 1967 as the Raleigh Boys Club in an old church in the Historic Oakwood neighborhood. In 1973 the Boys Club started its summer day camping program at Camp Charles M. Griffin. In 1978 the Boys Club moved to its new clubhouse located at 605 Raleigh Boulevard. In 1986 the Club opened the Wake Forest Boys Club and in 1987 changed its name to Boys & Girls Clubs when it opened the Raleigh Girls Club in an old storefront on Glascock Street. The Boys & Girls Clubs now serves over 4,000 school-aged children and teens in Wake County.
