The mission of Home Works is to show God's love for all through service to others and to assist others in their faith journey. Home Works' activities will focus on providing home repairs to homeowners in need, assisting youth in their development and empowering communities to meet the needs of its members.
Description: Home Works repairs the homes of the elderly and disadvantaged. The targeted volunteer are youths that are led by adult mentors. The volunteers are encouraged to interact with the homeowners during the session to learn about others and most importantly to give hope to the homeowner.
The sessions are held throughout the year and vary in length from one-day to two weeks. The repairs range from wheelchair ramps and bathroom handrails to repairing leaking roofs, replacing broken windows and painting.
History: Home Works began in 1996 and has since repaired more than 1,100 homes with over 14,000 volunteers. Home Works began its first work session on Johns Island in 1996 and has expanded its locations to include GA, LA, NC, PA, SC, TX & Peru.
The repair sessions are held in various cities. In the state of SC, the cities include: Johns Island, Wadmalaw Island, Cayce, Columbia, Aiken, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Charleston, Greenville County, West Columbia, Lexington, Irmo, Camden and a few other smaller cities are assisted as able.
