To increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another. Linking people who need help with those who can help!
Description:
United Way is a community investment that works. Your dollars go right back into our community to support health and human care agencies that provide thousands of people with youth services, elderly and volunteer services, health and family services and victim assistance. United Way of Adair County is a local organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors.
History:
United Way of Adair County was started in 1955 with Walter Beard, Jr. as the first president. The first campaign brought in $30,021, which exceeded the goal of $25,671. This money was used to fund six agencies: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Sojourners Library and the Adair County Child Welfare Service. Four of these agencies are still part of our United Way today.
