Penobscot School is a non-profit center for language learning and international exchange. The School seeks to educate and inform the people of our community and the greater world community through its language course offerings and community programs and services. We have been a valuable resource for our local community and beyond for the last 22 years.

Description:
The school continues to offer quality language instruction with weekly classes in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish and Polish, as well as immersion day workshops and weekends. Although the majority of offerings are for adults, the School works closely with area public schools to foster an early love of languages and culture in our young people. Penobscot School offers Kids French:grades 2&4 and Kids Spanish:grades K-1 after-school classes in our Fall and Winter semesters. Our intensive English Immersion Program for adults, which has 2 3-week sessions, either July or August, draws International students from all over the world in the summer.

History:
Penobscot School was incorporated in December of 1986 and will celebrate its 22nd Anniversary this year. The School has a scholarship fund for adults and children in the Mid-Coast area to allow anyone with an interest and desire, but lacking the finances, to study foreign languages at the School. Foreign language teacher training programs continue this summer with a seminar for foreign language teachers, "Methods Matter, 2008: A Practical Seminar on Teaching K-8 Foreign Language" co-sponsored by FLAME (Foreign Language Association of Maine). Penobscot School also continues to help increase awareness and broaden horizons through cultural events for the community.
