The Owls Head Transportation Museum is a non-profit Educational organization founded in 1974. Its purpose is to collect, preserve and exhibit pioneer aircraft, ground vehicles, engines and technology significant to the evolution of transportation, and/or the State of Maine.

Description:
The Museum documents, disseminates, researches its collections and offers educational publications and programs through its Library and Education Center. The Museum through its collection, programs and services strives to inspire, excite and raise awareness and appreciation of transportation history.

The Museum conducts an annual schedule of special educational events, which allows for the demonstration of its collections while attracting the participation of exhibitors and visitors.

The Museum’s core collection focus is on the pioneer era, considered as the period from the first attempts at manned flight and wheeled transport to circa 1930. Contemporary exhibits are displayed for comparison and historical perspective. The Museum Collection integrates the story of Maine nautical and rail history.

History:
The Museum was founded in 1974 on property adjacent to the Knox County Regional Airport the Museum. The Museum has grown over the years to encompass over 100,000 square feet of exhibition and storage space.
