Baptist Child and Family Services (BCFS) is a private non-profit, faith-based agency dedicated to assisting children and families in achieving their fullest potential through a continuum of programs and services. One such program is Preparation for Adult Living (PAL).

The mission of PAL is to prepare young adults emancipating from Foster Care to self sufficient and to guide them in becoming productive members of the community.

Description:
BCFS is a faith based agency with many community based programs. PAL (Preparation for Adult Living) is one of the BCFS programs. It has collaborated with several agencies, including Texas Department of Family Protective Services,Salvation Army, George Gervin Yucca Garden's Apartments, Education Source, CASA, Alamo Worksource, DARS etc. to form what is known as the P.A.L. Youth Center. The agencies involved in this collaboration all work toward a common goal: to assist youth in and out of foster care ranging in age 15-21 successfully prepare for adult living through youth driven case management and other supportive services.

PAL is dedicated to preparing youth in and from the child welfare system to be successful adults. One strategy of this program is to match youth with adult mentors in order to teach the youth independent living skills. Mentors are asked to give a one year commitment of their time.

History:
BCFS has a 61 year services history in San Antonio. It was begun in 1944 as the Mexican Baptist Children's Home and was later known as Baptist Children's Home Ministries. BCFS provides a variety of services which include: emergency children's shelters, foster care, outpatient counseling and psychological services, prenatal care, parent education, family preservation services and numerous other community based programs.
