The San Antonio Sports Foundation is a private, not-for-profit organization originally established in 1984 and chartered in 1986 to improve the quality of life of all citizens in the greater San Antonio area through sports and fitness programs.

Description:
To target sports as a growth industry in San Antonio and to solicit sporting events which have a positive effect on the economy and provide national media coverage.
To act as a catalyst in the development of sports and fitness programs for all ages, with a special emphasis on disadvantaged neighborhoods.
To support the development and maintenance of safe, high quality athletic facilities.

History:
We currently have more than 4,000 children enrolled in our Dreams for Youth program, which provides training in six Olympic sports: volleyball, tennis, diving, fencing, badminton and gymnastics. In its second year, more than 160,000 area K-5th graders participated in the Sports Foundation's Diamond Shamrock Go!Kids Challenge, a walking program designed to combat childhood obesity by promoting healthy habits through routine activity and education. The San Antonio Sports Foundation was also instrumental in the development of the Palo Alto Natatorium, the Alamodome and the Nelson Wolff baseball stadium for the S.A. community.
