Description:
ChildSafe provides services for any child or adolescent up to the age of 18 who are suspected victims of sexual abuse. Center services include: counseling, medical exams,a multidisciplinary team approach, community awareness and education, training for volunteers and community professionals, and long-term services through the CARE Project.
History:
In 1988, a multidisciplinary Task Force was formed to develop a plan to consolidate the counseling, evaluation, and investigative process of child sexual abuse. In 1992, this program was incorporated as the Alamo Children's Advocacy Center. In September of 1997, construction was completed at 7130 West US Highway 90 to co-house Alamo Children Advocacy Center Staff, a unit of Children's Protective Services, and staff from the San Antonio Police Department and District Attorney's Office.
