The mission of JOVEN is is to develop character and resiliency in children by providing innovative, exciting programs and structured alternative activities that are designed to help them succeed. Our vision is that JOVEN will help create a healthy community, in collaboration with others, where youth at risk and their families may experience healing and empowerment.
Description:
JOVEN (pronounced hoven) is the Spanish word for youth. We are a non-profit agency dedicated to outreach, counseling, and structured activities for youth at risk of chronic delinquency, school failure, gang involvement, and substance abuse. The primary task of JOVEN is to provide comprehensive services to youth, ages 4 to 17, and their families. The staff of JOVEN goes where they are needed, area schools, juvenile correctional facilities, and community centers throughout Bexar County. Today, JOVEN is the largest provider of social service/life skills training for youth delivered through in-school and after school programming in Bexar County.
History:
JOVEN was started in 1992 by the Benedictine Resource Center and incorporated in 1996. JOVEN was created in response to the alarming rise in juvenile violence and crime in Bexar County. Currently, JOVEN serves more than 10,000 children and their families a year through its 39 dedicated staff members, two outreach centers, and caring volunteers. We offer case management services, life skills training and group instruction, service referrals, and counseling to high risk youth and their families.
