The Mission of Goodwill is to help change lives through the power of work. The Values that govern Goodwill are Respect, Empowerment, Service, Passion,Excellence,Communication, Teamwork. The agency's vision is that Goodwill will be recognized as the community resource for overcoming barriers to employment and serve as a role model for other businesses to do likewise.

Description:
You already know that Goodwill is a great place to donate usable clothes and household items. Many people also know that Goodwill's stores are great places to shop for quality merchandise at low prices. But did you know that Goodwill stores are more than just places to find great fashions; they are living classrooms where people can 'learn while they earn'.

Goodwill Industries of San Antonio provides a variety of employment services for people with disabilities and barriers. At its Job Help Centers, which are open to the public, people can seek to change their lives through the power of work. Many of the services are free. The centers are located inside most Goodwill stores and serve as community resources to help people find and keep jobs. Some of the services provided include:
Employment bulletin board featuring career opportunities with Goodwill Industries and throughout the local community, assistance with writing a resume,
on-line job searching with Web-based employment resources and materials;GED completion services that are self-paced and mentors are often assigned. Also
enrollment into volunteer program services,
case management and referral to external
support services.

We provide access to a certified ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter via a state-of-the-art Internet video conferencing system operated by Deaf Link.

History:
Goodwill Industries of San Antonio was chartered in 1945 and is governed by a 25-member volunteer Board of Directors. Goodwill of San Antonio is assigned a total of 24 counties in the State of Texas. The dedicated and faithful support of our donors/customers throughout our 61 year-old history continue to provide the foundation of our agency. Donations of useable items that in turn sell in our 15 retail stores provide the major funding that enable the agency to fulfill its mission. Work services contracts and support from the United Way for almost fifty years are additional funding sources. In 2005, 10,926 volunteers contributed 305,974 hours of time and talent. This is truly an invaluable source of support that helps make our mission a reality.
