The Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) is committed to advancing the lives of at-risk and disadvantaged youth and families through an array of innovative programs of excellence in the areas of education, health and human services and community development.

Description:
AAMA's Selena Center for Youth provides a 24 hour home-like treatment center for 16 females ages 13-17. These teens come from a wide variety of backgrounds such as pregnant teens, Child Protective Services children, teens on probation or teens that have come in on a volunteer status. Those served do not have adequate resources to access residential treatment through medical coverage or independent financial resources. We provide a free service to help these teens overcome their addiction to substance abuse and show them a new way of life.

History:
The Selena Center has been in service for over 15 years serving youth in Bexar and contiguous counties. Every year Selena Center serves over 100 teens and educates them on substance abuse and how to overcome their addictions. We also provide countless other services having to do with life-skill areas. We are a program under AAMA, but have to provide our own resources for our center. AAMA has an array of programs and is ranked as the 9th largest non-profit agency in the country and serves over 30,000 individuals per year.
