Enforce child support court orders; establish paternity; collect child support.
Description:
The Texas Attorney General, Child Support Division, is the designated state agency (by Congress and the State Legislature) under the IVD Section of the Social Security Act to enforce the child support laws of Texas and the United States. The Division establishes paternity, enforces court orders for child support, and collects and distributes child support monies.
History:
The Attorney General's office was designated to assume responsibility for enforcing child support in 1983, at which time the Child Support Division was created.
