The mission of the P.E.A.C.E. Initiative is to educate the public about the extent and often deadly consequences of domestic violence and to respond effectively through collaborative partnerships.
Description:
The P.E.A.C.E. (Putting an End to Abuse through Community Efforts) Initiative provides domestic violence education and training, awareness, advocacy and collaboration. The P.E.A.C.E. Initiative is a coalition of individuals, groups and agencies working collaboratively to end domestic violence in San Antonio/Bexar County. We do this by raising the level of awareness about domestic violence issues, providing outreach to the community, advocating on behalf of victims and their children, and forming collaborations that will help to effectively respond to domestic violence issues. Each October, the P.E.A.C.E. Initiative coordinates events in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
History:
The P.E.A.C.E. Initiative was initially formed in 1990 under the auspices of the Benedictine Sisters. The group began with a small number of committed individuals and groups and has grown to include members from the nonprofit, for profit, medical and governmental agencies. In January of 2003, the P.E.A.C.E. Initiative spun off on its own as a 501(c)3 organization and continues with the mission to educate the community and respond effectively to domestic violence.
