Boysville provides long-term residential care for children who are unable to live at home due to abuse, neglect, abandonment or family crisis. Boysville offers a safe, structured, family-like environment for girls and boys ages birth to 17.

Description:
Boysville's mission is to provide a safe, family environment for children in need so that they may become responsible and successful adults. With a variety of programs offered at Boysville, children feel a sense of accomplishment, learn responsibility and understand the importance of a family. Some of the programs that are offered are 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, arts and crafts, horseback-riding, emergency shelter services, therapeutic services and many more. Because Boysville understands the importance of helping young adults once they graduate high school, we help them continue on to vocational training, military service, college and various job skills through our transitional living program. Currently, there are 12 students enrolled in universities around the state of Texas.

History:
Founded in 1943 by a minister in downtown San Antonio, Boysville provided food, shelter, clothing and spiritual care for neglected boys. Don Holiman saw a need to help orphaned and abandoned children of the war and Boysville began with help from the San Antonio Kiwanis and Optimists clubs. In 1953, the agency relocated to a site on Austin Highway, now IH-35 north at Loop 1604. In 1983, Boysville moved to its present location in Converse. In 1986, Boysville expanded its program to serve girls. In 2004, we expanded our program again to include infants and toddlers into our Emergency Shelter Program and Foster Care Program fulfilling a need to keep large sibling groups together. We continue to change with the needs of the community and strive to offer the best services to those in need.
