The Institute of Texan Cultures, one of the three campuses of The University of Texas at San Antonio, is an educational museum dedicated to enhancing the understanding of cultural history, science, and technology and their influence upon the people of Texas. Through exhibits, programs, and publications that encourage acceptance and appreciation of our differences, as well as our common humanity, the Institute provides a forum for diversity and the dynamics between cultural history and scientific discovery.

Description:
The orientation of the Institute is cultural history and science and technology. Through cultural and ethnic exhibits, living presentations, special events and outreach programs, the ITC focuses on telling the history of the peoples of the state of Texas.

History:
The Institute of Texan Cultures was created by the Texas Legislature in 1967. Its first assignment was to serve as the Texas Pavilion for HemisFair 1968, and it became part of The University of Texas System in 1969.
ITC presents the history of Texas through various ethnic groups who settled and developed the state. The Institute was the first attempt in this country to become a rational and objective educational tool which provided a base for understanding and unity.
