The Mission of Inman Christian Center is to empower children, youth, elderly and families who are living within the communities that Inman serves to develop to their full physical, mental and spiritual potential.
Description:
Inman Christian Center, founded in 1913, is a neighborhood-based community center offering childcare for infants, pre-school and school age children. Recreation and enrichment activities for children and youth ages 6-13 are also offered. Inman provides short term social services, information and referral and infant supplies. Substance abuse services for adolescent males is offered(program in transition). Inman sponsors six apartment complexes in San Antonio for low-income elderly and for adults with physical and/or mental disabilities.
History:
Inman was established in 1913 to serve individuals and families who were fleeing from the war going on in Mexico and settling in the western neighborhood of San Antonio. Samuel Guy Inman and the women of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) saw the need and began services with basic health and education activities. Services are inclusive of all persons.
