JDRF has traditionally focused on a single goal - to accelerate the progress of research through funding in order to cure diabetes and its devastating complications. While funding research for a cure for diabetes is still the main focus of JDRF, as an organization we now see the need to more fully serve the type 1 diabetic community by reaching out and providing them with outlets to help cope with life as a diabetic.

Description:
Dedicated to Finding a Cure
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF)was founded in 1970 by parents of children with juvenile diabetes, and is the leading charitable funder and advocate of juvenile (type 1) diabetes research worldwide. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires them to prick their fingers several times a day to check their blood sugar and multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump just to survive. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications. The complications diabetics may suffer from include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. Once a child is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, it will never go away they are force to endure this disease and its complications for their entire life spans.

History:
JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes. As a result, many of JDRF's volunteers have a personal connection to type 1 diabetes, which translates into an unrelenting commitment to finding a cure. These volunteers are the driving force behind more than 100 locations worldwide that raise money, create awareness through education, advocate for government spending for type 1 diabetes research, and facilitate outreach programs.
