You want to help victims of family violence, and you have a listening ear. This is an unique opportunity to work within the San Antonio Police Department or the Family Justice Center to assist victims of domestic violence. Volunteers are trained to talk with victims about resources in the community, their rights as a victim, and the need for a safety plan. Volunteers are asked to work one Friday or Saturday night a month at one of the police substations from 7:00 p.m. till 2:00 a.m.

If you prefer to work during the day,you can volunteer at the Family Justice Center, a one stop location for victims of domestic violence to access many services. Volunteers greet clients and help them start the paperwork, make follow up phone calls, and assist with other needs victims may have. Hours are 8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteers are asked to work at least 8 hours a month at the Center which is located in University Hospital downtown.

Volunteers must be 21 with no criminal convictions, and complete the required processing and training. The application process includes reference and background checks. We cannot accept anyone who has been convicted of a felony. There are 17 hours of training required for F.A.C.T. plus an additional 4 hours of orientation to the police department. Classes are held quarterly: January, April, July, and October.
