The ITC is always looking for active and enthusiastic volunteers! Opportunities for involvement include:

Exhibit Floor interpreters (interpret various interactive areas of the Exhibit Floor, including the Post Office, the jacal, quilting, spinning and weaving, "Creation and Cosmos," American Indian, the sharecropper's cabin and the chuck wagon)

Tour Guides (lead tour groups and individuals through the Exhibit Floor and teach about Texas' unique history and the influence of the various ethnic groups)

Gift Shop assistants (work at ITC's retail outlet; involves customer service, merchandising, register operation, cleaning, and sales)

Front door greeters (greet and direct visitors as they come in the Institute's main entrance)

Office assistants (assist in the day-to-day functions of the various offices that support the operation of the ITC)

Library docents (provide clerical assistance to the ITC's Library, which houses a collection of over 3 million historic photographs)

Puppeteers (support the programs in The Bluebonnet Puppet Theater, located on the Exhibit Floor, which provides an exciting and entertaining view of the ethnic and cultural history of Texas)

Back 40 (introduce visitors to pioneer life in Texas through interpreting, in period costume, the one-room schoolhouse, the adobe, the fort, the dogtrot log cabin, and the barn)

Outreach (take the ITC into the community by visiting various schools and organizations)

Special events (Texas Folklife Festival, Asian Festival, Memorial Memories, special exhibits,community events, and more)

Requirements:

  1. )English is a must, second language is a bonus!
  2. )Friendliness, patience, and good humor as you work with people of all ages.
  3. )Attendance at a 3-week orientation program and making a commitment of three hours of service per week.
  4. ) An interest in helping to tell the stories of Texas.
