The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. We do this through the extensive research we support to find the cause, cure and improved treatments of the disease; the comprehensive services we provide to people with MS and their families; the professional education programs we offer to assist health care providers to better serve their MS patients; and through the advocacy work we further on state and federal levels to encourage public policies supportive of the needs of people with multiple sclerosis. This is why we at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society are here.
Description:
The Inland Northwest Chapter serves 15 counties in eastern Washington, and 10 counties in northern Idaho. The Inland Northwest Chapter area has the second highest rate of MS in the world. The Inland Northwest Chapter supports research through fundraising events and donations. Some of our fundraisers are the MS Walks in April; the MS Bike Ride in September, a summer golf outing and the Octobrewfest Dinner Auction. The Inland Northwest Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society provides a variety of supportive and educational programs to people with MS and their families, throughout the chapter area, such as: Information and Referral, Self Help Groups, Telephone Peer Support, Durable Medical Equipment, Financial Assistance for Medical Equipment, Educational Programs, Newly Diagnosed Program, Advocacy, Newsletter, Lending Library and Aquatic Programs.
History:
In 1946 Sylvia Lawry sought out others who suffered from MS to find help for her brother. She began with a small group of those who had MS and their families. This group became the National MS Society. Founded in 1946, the Society supports more MS research, offers more services for people with MS, provides more professional education programs and furthers more MS advocacy efforts that any other MS organization in the world. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is pleased to advise that it meets the standards of all major agencies that rate non-profit groups. The Inland Northwest Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is one of a 70-plus-chapter network across the United States that advances the Society's mission. Chartered in 1954, the Inland Northwest Chapter provides services and programs to over 2000 people with MS and their families within the Chapter's 25 county territory.
