Our mission is to strengthen individual voices for opportunity, income, child care, education, support, and other low-income issues in our community. We also strongly believe that it is necessary for all low- income people to actively become part of the poverty solution.

Description:
Our agency provides members with leadership and advocacy training and opportunities. Our members often move on to other boards and policy councils that focus on issues they care about. We believe that it is important to educate the community about the realities of being low income and how people struggle to make ends meet. We have a Speakers Bureau that goes around the community and does presentations.VOICES puts out a monthly newpaper, called the Communique, which is a resource booklet for the Spokane area. VOICES holds monthly meetings where we have a speaker do presentation. We always try to make sure this will be useful educating information.

History:
VOICES was started in 1996 during the welfare reform movement. It is a place for people of the community to bring their concerns, in hopes of becoming involved in making a positive change.

VOICES is Thought-Provoking and Empowering!
I have been so impressed with my experiences with VOICES--I attended a lobbying trip with them to Olympia and found them to be organized and supportive for their members. They do so much not only to empower low-income people politically, but also to break down the stereotypes and assumptions that are perpetuated by classism. They connect voters and lawmakers to real people affected by poverty-related legislation, while educating and training their members. I am amazed by all they do, and highly encourage anyone and everyone to DONATE GENEROUSLY to them!
