SNAP works for low-income and vulnerable people by:providing human services, housing, and economic opportunities in a manner which enhances dignity and advocating for programs, policies, and resources that maximize individual capacities and promote strong communities.

Description:
Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs provides services to low income and vulnerable people including: Energy Assistance, Homeless Family Development, Food Bank Services, Housing Assistance, Economic Development, Employment Programs, Emergency Assistance, Minor Home Repair and Weatherization, Long-Term Care Ombudsman Assistance, Mortgage Assistance and Conservation Education.

History:
SNAP began serving the Spokane community in the summer of 1966, with the goal of assisting the poor in meeting their emergency needs and providing services in their own communities. Father Frank Back, Director of Catholic Charities, with the assistance of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, established three community-based centers. The community-based centers were so successful, the Community Action Agency took over the administration of the neighborhood centers. By 1985, Catholic Charities decided to place the Neighborhood Centers program on its own and it became Spokane Neighborhood Centers,Inc. In 1991, the agency became Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs (SNAP). SNAP continues to be responsive to individual, family, and community needs by providing a range of opportunities that promote stability for our vulnerable neighbors and encourage economic self-sufficiency for those who are able.
