The Friends of the Moran Prairie Library provide resources that fall outside of the Library's limited budget. We help sponsor community programs that provide opportunities for children, teens, and adults to use Library resources to enrich their lives. Our intent is to improve the quality of life in the Moran Prairie area by providing these opportunities.

Description:
We are a community-based non-profit group of people just like you, who promote, encourage and enhance the work of our local libraries.

We raise hundreds of dollars every year to supplement the Moran Prairie Library, Spokane County Library District, and Spokane area Library programs, the majority of it, through community activities. Our members volunteer many hours of their time toward these goals.

History:
The Friends of the Moran Prairie Library formed in the fall of 2000. We formed with the opening of the new Moran Prairie Library. Our 501(c)[3] was shared status with the Friends Groups at Otis Orchards and Fairfield Libraries.

The Friends organized the 1st Anniversary celebration for the Library in June 2001. The celebration featured activities for all ages. There were book signings and readings by local authors, and art projects for children.

We received formal recognition from the Spokane County Library District in 2001. Since then, we have held fund raising book sales in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 that provided support to the Spokane County Library District's summer reading programs, "Spokane is Reading" and artwork for the children's reading area of the Library.

In February 2004, we formed our board of directors, and elected our first full body of officers. We applied for our own 501(c)[3] status in June; and were granted it on June 14, 2004.

We raised over $8,000 to pay for modifications to the new Library constructed in 2005 to include high quality audio-visual equipment. The new Library opened in January 2006, and the Friends help to provide the refreshments and guest speakers for the event.
