We are in need of a volunteer who would like to have a set schedule.
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. We can be very flexible. This volunteer would be trained to do our intakes. Answering the phone, asking simple questions and getting the information needed to help our clients. We provide a fun, friendly experience for our volunteers. And we feed you too. We do not discriminate against anyone. However the subject matter that is sometimes dealt with not appropriate for someone under 16 years of age. Here is a type of client in which we have served in the past... The story begins....
This client is 13 years old and her step-father kicked her out of the home. Child was currently staying with her aunt. The step-father drinks and does drugs. People were constantly run in and out of the house at night. The children often had no food and step-father sleeps all day. The step-father was verbally and physically abusive with the 9 year-old. There is a 5 year-old that is his biological child. The mother ran off a year ago. The step-father was granted custody of the children. Neighbors claim to have witnessed abuse in the home. CPS was involved with the placement of the children. The CPS worker stated that the house is a “dangerous and chaotic place”. She would like to see all the children placed out of the home. This case was referred to an attorney for a CHIN'S petition, to place the 13 year old with the aunt. The children are safe and happy now.
The training we provide is simple and interesting. We have, in the past, taken our volunteers with us to training we have attended. This can be a great experience for the volunteer who loves to learn. The only limitations would be that the volunteer would need to be available from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
