Community volunteer advocates provide emotional support, socialization, and a genuine friendship to children who have been victims of abuse. The program is dedicated to helping children through the difficult healing process, while providing a friend and role model for the child. The goals of the program are to build a one-on-one supportive relationship that will be maintained weekly for 6 months, to enhance continuity and stabilization.

Candidates for the Victim Assistance volunteer position must be at least 18 years of age and able to pass a background check. All Child Advocates are required to complete 40 hours of training (30 hours initially) and be able to make a 7 month commitment (1 month for training & background check, the 6 months with the child). Trainings are held 3 times each calendar year, in January, May, and September. Volunteers must commit a minimum of 1-2 hours each week with their assigned child.
