The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta provides essential household furnishings to previously homeless families and individuals, including people living with HIV/AIDS, and women and children fleeing domestic violence
Description:
The Furniture Bank provides essential household furnishings to previous homeless families, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, and victims of domestic violence. Each client is guaranteed a bed for every member of their family and a sofa. Other items are provided when available such as dressers, lamps, dinette sets, bookshelves, loveseats, and coffee tables. On average household received 12 pieces of furniture. Furniture provision provides a safer, more stable home environment for our clients.
History:
The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta was founded in 1988 in response to the lack of furniture resources for homeless people who secured permanent housing. Before the Furniture Bank, many of these individuals and families had no furniture, and were forced to sleep and eat on the floor
