History:
The Georgia Chapter of the National MS Society was chartered in April 1953 and is one of sixty-one chapters in the U.S. Its staff serves clients in 159 counties in Georgia and along with hundreds of volunteers, raises more than $1.5 million annually from events such as the Bike MS:Cox Atlanta Ride, the Bike MS: Georgia Power Savannah Ride and eight MS Walks. Eighty-one cents of every dollar raised goes directly to local programs and research. The Georgia Chapter provides programs and services to more than 8,500 individuals with MS, plus family members and friends affected by MS. We help clients through direct financial assistance, respite care, transportation, MS clinics, self-help groups and peer counseling, community information and referrals, education, chapter publications, and recreational and social programs. On the healthcare front, the Georgia Chapter conducts in-service training for healthcare professionals to advance their knowledge of MS.
