Description:
The YWCA of Northwest Georgia is a social service agency in Cobb County providing support for women and families since 1917. Since then, we have helped literally thousands of individuals through our counseling, education and childcare programs. We offer challenging, rewarding and fun opportunities to create a safer and more hopeful future for women and children. We are a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt non-profit agency. Our most important goals are to empower women to achieve self-sufficient and productive lives for themselves and their families and to eliminate racism. We offer challenging, rewarding and fun opportunities to create a safer and more hopeful future for women and children. We offer:
- Volunteer/Internship and Community Service Opportunities
- Child Development-Two Locations: NAEYC Accredited Child Care (6 weeks – 5 years), Georgia Pre-K
- Family Violence Sexual Assault Program: Services for men and women, Crisis Hotline (24 hour), Domestic Violence Shelter, Transitional Housing, Sexual Assault Hospital Accompaniment, Legal Advocacy, TANF Assessments, Support Groups, Children Services, and Case Management Services.

History:
Throughout our history, the YWCA has been in the forefront of most major movements in the United States as a pioneer in race relations, labor union representation, and the empowerment of women. Historical Background of Service for the Women and Children of Cobb County and Northwest Georgia from 1917 - 2003 1917 - YWCA charter received from YWCA of USA 1919 - YWCA Drama Pageant draws thousands with Regina Rambo Benson representing 'progress' in 'the vision of the Blue Crusaders' 1921 - YWCA facilities serve as community meeting rooms for civic clubs YWCA takes lunch time programs to women at industrial sites 1948 - Sleeping accommodations provided for voting women 1953 - Monte Whitaker comes to YWCA as Executive Director Agency becomes participating member of the Metropolitan United Way 1965 - New Building on Henderson Street built with county's first heated pool 1968 - Facilities open in South Cobb to address needs of senior citizens 1976 - Howard Street YWCA opens to provide life skills training to youth and families in Boston homes public Housing 1977 - YWCA vocational counseling for displaced homemakers begins 1978 - State of Georgia's first emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence opened 1979 - A gift of property establishes the YWCA Endowment Fund 1980 - YWCA resettles 56 Indo-Chinese refugees with help of Tip Top Poultry and Catholic Social Services 1985 - YWCA receives the YWCA of USA 1st Racial Justice Award for the permanent exhibit 'Black Women, Achievement Against the Odds' 1988 - Capital Campaign for new shelter begins 1989 - New 10-bedroom facility, Sheltering Hands, opens to accommodate up to 10 women and their children 1991 - YWCA Children's Place, county's first (and still only) licensed child care facility for preschool age children of homeless families opens to serve families residing in and referred by area emergency shelters and transitional housing Two-bedroom house originally used as shelter for battered women renovated for transitional housing 1992 - Cobb County NAACP Freedom Fund Award presented to YWCA for Religious Affairs YWCA first annual Art to Heart event at the Stouffer Waverly to raise funds for YWCA programs and services First YWCA Kathryn Woods Racial Justice Award given to Cobb County Public Schools 1993 - Marietta City Schools recognizes YWCA Children's Place for its child care program 1994 - Cobb Bar Association recognizes YWCA Domestic Violence Program for its contributions to the community 2001 - Purchased transitional house 2003 - Children's Place receives accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) 2005 - Paulding Early Learning Center Opened For more information about our history please visit the YWCA of the USA website.

From the South Take 1-75 North
Exit 265 North Marietta PKWY, make a left at the traffic light, (cross over HWY 41/ Cobb PKWY). Proceed 2-3 miles
(8 traffic lights) Henderson St. is one street over from Whitlock - next to the SunTrust Bank.
OR
Exit 263, Southern Polytechnic/Marietta - Stay in far left lane and it will put you on South Marietta Parkway.
· Proceed approx. two miles on South Marietta Parkway.
· Pass the Cobb Civic Center on the left, cross over South Atlanta Road, go under train underpass and make the next right onto North Marietta Parkway,
(CVS Pharmacy is on the corner).
· Go through one traffic light and make a left onto Henderson Street.
· YWCA is on the right.
From the BIG CHICKEN
· At third light turn right onto Highway 41 (Cobb Parkway).
· Follow Highway 41 to third traffic light and turn left onto Roswell Street (Big Chicken on far right corner).
· Proceed 2-3 miles; you will go through the Marietta Square and cross the railroad tracks (Krystals' restaureant is on the right).
· Make a left at the light onto North Marietta Parkway (also known as Powder Springs Road).
· Turn right at the next street, which is Henderson Street.
· The YWCA is on the right.
From the North Take 1-75 South
· Exit 267 (Highway 5 South).
· Pass Kennestone Hospital on your right.
· At 2nd light turn right onto North Marietta Parkway.
· Pass through two traffic lights and take a right onto Henderson Street.
· YWCA is on the right.
