Our mission is to promote wellness and healthy lifestyles through a wholistic approach, to increase positive coping skills for stress management and to decrease the incidences of stress related illness and negative behavior.

Description:
The Wholistic Stress Control Institute, Inc. (WSCI) is a non-profit community based organization whose mission is to teach wholistic stress management by promoting wellness and healthy lifestyle choices. This mission is accomplished through training programs, consultation and educational resources. WSCI provides a variety of muli-purpose human services in the areas of education, prevention, intervention and treatment related to teen pregnancy, mental health, juvenile delinquency, violence, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS and other areas.

WSCI utilizes a 'wholistic' approach in all its education programs and resources. The wholistic approach advocates the harmonious development of the total person:mind, body and spirit.

The Institute was founded in 1984 by Jennie C Trotter and incorporated in 1987.

History:
In 1984, WSCI's initial work began in a Fulton County elementary school designated as having the highest poverty rate. With community input and support, WSCI designed an early prevention program called Project Stress Control which taught stress management skills to students, parents and teachers. The program received two Governor's Exemplary Prevention Awards.

WSCI received state funds through the assistance of State Representative Bob Holmes to provide training services. These funds were used to conduct an intervention program at the Lorenzo Benn Youth Development Center for incarcerated youth. This program resulted in a significant increase in coping skills and a 32% reduction in violent behavior among the youth.

WSCI presently operates 13 prevention and intervention programs in communities within metro Atlanta. WSCI's programs are supported by city, county, state, federal and foundation grants, an through the sale of resource materials and training services.
