A Triad is a community partnership between seniors, senior service organizations, law enforcement agencies and public safety providers. The essence of the Triad concept is to reduce criminal activity targeted at seniors, and to enhance the delivery of law enforcement and public safety services to senior citizens. The Triad concept is implemented in each locale through a S.A.L.T. [Seniors And Law enforcement Together] Council.
Description:
The Tri-Cities S.A.L.T./Triad [TRIAD] encompasses the cities of East Point, College Park and Hapeville. Among the entities working with TRIAD are MARTA Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff's Department, East Point Police Department, East Point Fire Department, and others. The TRIAD meets on the second Monday of every month, at the HJC Bowden Senior Multipurpose Facility, located at 2885 Church Street [corner of Dorsey] in East Point [30344].
History:
The Tri-Cities S.A.L.T./Triad was formed in 1995 [by the Metropolitan Crime Commission {now defunct}] as an affiliate of the National Association of Triads, Incorporated. Persons instrumental in the formation of the Tri-Cities S.A.L.T./Triad were: Sharon Tinsley Battle, Captain Pat Boyce [Weed and Seed], Kate Cagle, Ruth Cannon, Elizabeth Grier, Bobby Huff, Howard King, Chris McGarity, Laura Moody, Assistant Chief Bud Mote [East Point Police], Jack and Mary Norton, Lee Thompson. Annually, we present our Fall Senior Safety Conference which alerts senior citizens about the predators which target them during the Holiday Season. [On November 5, 2007 we will hold our Sixth.] At our meetings, we circulate pictures of missing persons. Each month, we honor a person who helps combat crimes against the elderly. We held a "Fashion Show" which enlightened seniors about the official uniforms of persons who come to seniors' homes on official business. Such persons include delivery persons, meter readers and public safety officers. We help identify seniors who need home repairs and refer them to sources of aid. We are creating a directory of the services offered by our the public safety organizations who attend our monthly meetings.
