"Camp Fire is a program that gives a young person something to strive for. You learn about goals. You discover your desire for attainment. To have an adventure every day - and then at night, to sing about it around the campfire... what could be better for a child than this?" --Martha Ellis

Description:
Camp Fire USA is one of the nation's leading not-for-profit youth development organizations, currently serving 735,000 children and youth annually. Camp Fire USA, with national headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., provides all-inclusive, coeducational programs in hundreds of communities across the United States. Serving youth from birth to 21, Camp Fire USA helps boys and girls learn - and play - side by side in comfortable, informal settings. Our coed programs allow parents to consolidate schedules for both their daughters and sons.

As the first nonsectarian, interracial organization for girls in the United States, Camp Fire USA takes pride in its long-standing commitment to providing fun programs and services to all children and families in America. We are inclusive, open to every person in the communities we serve, welcoming children, youth and adults regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation or other aspect of diversity. Camp Fire USA's programs are designed and implemented to reduce sex-role, racial and cultural stereotypes and to foster positive intercultural relationships.

Camp Fire USA's mission is to build caring, confident youth and future leaders.

History:
Dr. and Mrs. Luther Gulick founded Camp Fire Girls in 1910 as the first non-sectarian, interracial organization for girls. Built on the American traditions of pioneering and Indian lore, our guiding values are self-reliance, the importance of community, and environmental education.

In 1975, recognizing the need for males and females to learn to work together at a young age, Camp Fire changed its name to Camp Fire Boys and Girls. In 2001, we evolved again, changing our name to Camp Fire USA and modernizing our logo and image to appeal to the kids of today.

Camp Fire was established in Georgia in 1923. In 1926, one of the original charter directors, Mrs. Thomas R. Brooke, located the site for a girl's resident camp in Toccoa in 1926, later to be affectionately known as Camp Toccoa.

One of Camp Fire USA's greatest strengths has always been is its ability to anticipate, plan and adapt to change. So many people fondly remember the Camp Fire of their childhood - a youth service organization that was a growing, dynamic force in the community. Today's children are confronted with challenges unlike any generation before, and Camp Fire USA continues its tradition of listening to the needs of young people, responding with exciting, relevant programs. Today's Camp Fire is for today's kids.
