Serving WNY since 1917, the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County is a volunteer-based not-for-profit organization that through gifts to its Community Care Fund, invests in nearly 200 community-wide programs and initiatives that range from infants to the elderly. Program areas funded through the United Way Community Care Fund include basic needs, healthy futures for children and families, support for elderly, and preventative services.

Approximately 200 of the most-needed, unduplicated service programs at 65 different agencies are funded through corporate and individual donor's gifts to the United Way Community Care Fund.

Initiatives and programs of the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County include Success By 6, Neighborhood Leadership Institute, Family Support Centers in schools, United Way Day of Caring, News Neediest Fund, Women's Board Governance Project and the In-Kind Donation Program for agencies.

Over 90 cents of every United Way Community Care Fund dollar raised is invested into the community to build self-sufficiency, hope, supportive living situations and a stronger community.

HISTORY:

The United Way of Buffalo & Erie County is local. We have helped our community for over 85 years, since 1917, through the generous support of literally thousands of individuals, corporations, labor unions, foundations and providers to furnish the tools needed to build and maintain a strong community. United Way has a proud history as a community-based, volunteer-led organization that is both a catalyst and a participant in identifying and resolving our communitys health and human service challenges.

Today, we continue to make a difference through gifts to the United Way Community Care Fund, which are invested in nearly 200 caring, results-driven local programs. Investment decisions are shared by trained, knowledgeable volunteers from throughout the community. Programs funded by the United Way Community Care Fund meet only the greatest local needs.
