The mission of the National MS Society is to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.
Description:
The local impact of MS is alarming. The Upstate New York Chapter provides programs and services to 12,000 people and their families living with MS in 50 counties across New York state. In 2006, chapters in each of the 50 states contributed to the $47 million dollars raised to help the National MS Society continue its programs, research, and professional education.
History:
The National MS Society as an organization has grown into 136 chapters and branches since its founding in 1946. Approximately 400,000 Americans have MS, and every week 200 people are diagnosed – more than one person an hour. Each spring, over 11,000 participants at 21 locations across Upstate NY participate in the MS Walk. Since its founding in 1946, the National MS Society has been the leading provider of programs for people with MS, their families and friends and continues to encourage research necessary to help find a cure.
