The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara County is to organize a body of mature and responsible individuals to volunteer primarily with children who are in risk, due to circumstances in their lives that they cannot control. These adult volunteers will provide needed encouragement, companionship, role modeling and influences outside of the home for the child's proper development.

Description:
BBBS of Niagara County works with adult volunteers from the community to form one-to-one friendships with children between the ages of 7 and 15, from single parent families in Niagara County. Volunteers are 18 years of age and older, may be married or single and come from all walks of life. A "match" is made between an adult volunteer, a "Big", and a child waiting in the program, a "Little". The minimum commitment for Bigs is 1 year, for 3 to 5 hours a week. BBBS staff provides support for all volunteers with any questions or concerns they may have regarding their match. We have a great number of children who are waiting patiently for a Big. Volunteers are greatly needed!!!

History:
BBBS of Niagara County was incorporated in 1973. It is a private, non-profit, community organization operated under the auspices of a Board of Directors. Since that time, BBBS has served children in single parent homes throughout Niagara County. The Agency is affiliated with BBBS of America and is classified as a full service agency. BBBS has earned the reputation of caring for children by the quality and longevity of successful matches. BBBS is the only youth service organization founded on a simple, tested and proven concept: the therapy of friendship in a one-to-one relationship. We are the only youth focused agency that serves children of both gender, county wide, with no fee or dues for service. BBBS is currently serving over 200 children throughout the county.

Overall Experience    Experience rating
My volunteer experience has been, and still is, wonderful.

I have been a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara County for almost 2 years now. It has been a wonderful experience, for both myself and my little sister. It is unfortunate how many children are waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister and do not have one. You only need to be open-minded, responsible and committed - you dont need to have special skills or a lot of money. Volunteer today!
