In support of the vision of lasting social benefits for a healthy community, the mission of the Not For Profit Resource Center is to make not for profit organizations in the human services section more effective.

Description:
The Not For Profit Resource Center, one of the initiatives of The United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, offers these services to help Not For Profits build their capacity and deliver more services more efficiently.

Business Services Volunteers provides corporate volunteers and college interns in business support areas such as Finance, Information Systems, Human Resources and Marketing.

Emerging Not For Profits links newly forming Not For Profits to existing agencies, so that their organizers can achieve their program goals without the time and expense of having to form a new agency.

Shared Services and Merger Facilitation discreetly and confidentially assists agencies that wish to explore sharing services or seeking out a merger or consolidation partner or partners.

Agency Board Officers Network provides a forum for Trustee and Board leaders of agencies to meet with each other and ask each other to help with issues peer to peer.

History:
The first Director of the NFPRC was hired in September 2000. The Oishei Foundation provided the initial capital and the United Way has provided in-kind resources. Funding has also come from the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and the County of Erie.The delivery of capacity building services commenced in December 2000 within the framework of Best Practices Seminars, Technical Assistance, Trustee Clearinghouse, Standards of Excellence and Facilitation. These categories have been reallocated over the years in an effort to avoid duplicating programs offered by others.
