MISSION STATEMENT

"To identify and service community transportation needs of senior citizens, disabled and low/moderate income residents in the communities of Erie County by establishing transportation through Volunteer and Community Support Services."

Description:
Let me give you some background on our organization. We are a non-profit transportation service that operates in Erie County. We service the elderly, handicap and low/moderate income clients in 25 different towns and villages. Our service provides transportation for medical, grocery shopping, banking and personal business trips, with medical taking priority. We operate with a combination of ten vans, mini-vans and wheelchair accessible vehicles.

Transportation has become a serious problem for many individuals throughout Erie County, especially with the lack public transportation in rural and suburban areas. As families move away and independence becomes a greater challenge for many people, the need for Rural Transit Service arises. We give independence, companionship, and security to our riders. We allow these individuals to accomplish their daily life routines and become their family.

Rural Transit Services biggest accomplishment is that we are totally volunteer driven! Many retired and non-retired residents volunteer to drive, dispatch or ride as a driver's aide helping the clients get in and out of the vans and carrying groceries.

History:
We have been providing transportation since 1990 with over 130 volunteers assisting our organization. We are very proud of our outstanding and dedicated volunteers.
