As stewards of half the nations blood supply, the top priority of the American Red Cross is assuring the safety and availability of blood supplies for vulnerable patients whenever and wherever it's needed.
Description:
Volunteers are an integral part of blood collection and delivery. They are needed to assist at blood drives to greet and register donors and in the canteen to serve refreshments. Shuttle driver positions are also available to transport blood in sealed containers between facilities. The NY-Penn Region serves 6.8 million people and 129 hospitals. We collect and distribute more than 1000 units of blood daily. American Red Cross Blood Services in Buffalo collects blood in Buffalo and surrounding counties. That blood is delivered to Rochester for processing and processed units of blood are returned to Buffalo to be distributed to area hospitals.
History:
The New York-Penn Region was established in 1994. The consolidation of several smaller regions enhances the safety of the blood supply and strengthens local blood collections, allowing for safe and cost effective blood products to be delivered to vulnerable patients in hospitals
