Aspire, formerly United Cerebral Palsy of WNY, works to help people with cerebral palsy, developmental disabilities, and other similar conditions live their lives to the fullest in keeping with their informed choices.

Description:
Aspire provides program and services for more than 2,300 developmentally disabled children and adults throughout Western New York. Programs include: (1) Children Services, based at the Center for Learning on Union Road in Cheektowaga, which provide integrated day care through the Children's Discovery Corner, school-age and before/after school programs, Early Intervention, and specialized health services; (2) Adult Services, based at 7 Community Drive in Cheektowaga, 2356 North Forest Road in Getzville, and at 140 Mall Boulevard in Lakewood. These sites provide day habilitation and treatment programs, specialized support services, community integration and recreation programs. The 7 Community Drive site also provide health services including primary medical care, neurology, podiatry, and occupational, physical, and speech therapy. Through "Technology Today" Aspire provides individuals with access to, and training on, specially adapted computer equipment. (3) Housing & Residential Services which staff, support and maintain 40 group homes and apartment buildings throughout the area, and; (4) a Service Coordination program which helps more than 700 individuals with developmental disabilities develop, implement and maintain a network of support, services and activities according to their needs and desires. Aspire also provides transportation, respite and home services.

History:
Aspire was started as the United Cerebral Palsy Association in 1947 by local parents who wanted to improve the quality of support available for their sons and daughters with cerebral palsy. Over the next 50 years Aspire grew and now provides support for individuals with any kind of developmental disability, in addition to helping those with cerebral palsy. Aspire separated from UCP National in 2003 and continues to provide a full range of comprehensive programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities.
