The mission of the Berks County Office of Aging is to provide quality services to all clients, based on their needs, in a responsible and efficient manner; to treat all persons with dignity and respect; to promote client self determination; and to advocate for clients' rights. It is our goal to continuously improve both the level and scope of services for older adults in our community, guided by the philosophy that such services are meant to assist individuals in achieving and maintaining the highest possible level of independence.

Description:
Berks County Office of Aging coordinates a comprehensive service system to meet the needs of the 70,000+ seniors aged 60 and over in Berks County. Services include meals on wheels, senior centers, in home personal care services, adult day care, care management, information and assistance, transportation, protective services, and legal services. Programs and services are offered by the Office of Aging and its subcontracted agencies. Some services have eligibility criteria and fees. A goal of the community based service network is to provide older people with support and assistance to keep them independent and at home for as long as possible thus preventing the need for a nursing home.

History:
The Berks County Office of Aging was organized in 1974. Berks County Office of Aging was organized in 1974. It is the unit of county government designated by the Berks County Commissioners as the Area Agency on Aging. It is one of fifty-two Area Agencies on Aging in Pennsylvania. The agency is responsible for developing and coordinating a comprehensive service system to meet the needs of Berks County's older residents.
