The Parks Department is dedicated to planning, developing and maintaining a system of parks that provide recreation and leisure, environmental education and awareness, and cultural and historic education. The open spaces, recreational areas, and the historical sites within the parks will be clean, safe, attractive and will support a wide range of citizen participation and involvement.
Description:
The Berks County Parks & Recreation Dept.consists of 11 parks - Berks Co. Heritage Ctr., Allegheny Aqueduct Historical Park, Leesport Lock House, Kaercher Creek Park, Stonecliffe Recreation Area, Berks Leisure Area, Gring's Mill Recreation Area, the Youth Recreation Facility, Hunsicker's Grove, Red Bridge Rec. Area, and Camp Joy
History:
The County Parks & Rec. Dept. has been in existence since 1968. Each year over 200,000 people visit our parks and attend activities. The Department offers a free summer concert series, interpretive series programs on natural, cultural history, childrens' and adult workshops, a county-wide playground program, several special festivals throughout the year, including Holiday Lights at Gring's Mill the month of December.
