The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Our vision is that people everywhere will share the power of a wish.
Description:
The purpose of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant the wish of each child who has reached the age of 2½ and is under the age of 18 who has a life-threatening medical condition, i.e., a progressive, degenerative or malignant medical condition that has placed the child's life in jeopardy. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 77 chapters in the United States and its territories and 27 international affiliates on five continents. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 110,000 wishes to children around the world since 1980.
History:
On April 29, 1980, a 7-year-old boy named Chris Greicius realized his lifelong dream to become a police officer. Many of those responsible for fulfilling Chris' wish wanted to do the same for other children with life-threatening medical conditions. This led to the formation of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
