To document and preserve the history of the Reading Railroad and to provide an enjoyable educational experience for visitors to our museum.
Description:
An all volunteer organization of approximately 900 members from across the United States who are interested in preserving and telling the history of the Reading Railroad and its affect on the communities of the territory it served. We have a collection of over 70 pieces of significant rolling stock plus a large archive collection of Reading Company papers and photographs. We are presently engaged in the establishment of a permanent museum facility in the Berks/Schuylkill County area.
History:
The organization was formed in 1976 and has grown continuously since that time. We publish a quarterly magazine and participate in many projects to restore and preserve a variety of artifacts, railroad equipment and archival materials. We display a model railroad depicting scenes along the former Reading Railroad at local shopping malls and other venues.
