The mission of the BCIU is to provide quality resources, innovative programs, and responsible leadership to meet the educational and social service needs of our children, schools, and community.
Description:
Our staff is committed to providing high quality, cost effective services to 18 public school districts, 30 nonpublic schools, preschool programs, and adult learners. The agency's focus and philosophy is characterized by collaboration, collegiality, and a partnership committed to what is best for learners.
History:
Established in 1971 along with 28 other intermediate units by the state legislature (Act 102) as service organizations to local school districts and other human service organizations. The BCIU has no administrative or supervisory functions in local school districts but exists to provide services and programs which might be uneconomical or impractical for districts to provide themselves. The BCIU also acts as liaison between the districts and the Pennsylvania Department of Ed.
