Mifflin Community Library is a state-aided member of the Berks County Public Libraries System emphasizing life long learning and is staffed by professional librarians, trained circulation assistants and patron services volunteers.
Description:
The Mifflin Community Library (MCL)serves the lifelong learning needs of the residents of the five municipalities in the Governor Mifflin School District area: Kenhorst, Cumru Township, Shillington, Mohnton and Brecknock Township (Berks), providing in-library information resources as well as in-house and off-site cultural programs for all ages.
History:
The Mifflin Community Library was founded in 1977 by the Shillington Woman's Club. After losing its original home in 1996, the library was kept alive by a group of dedicated volunteers. In 1997, Mohnton Borough Council generously gave the library space in its meeting room in the Borough Hall. In December 2000, the library relocated to rental space in the former Ibach Pharmacy building in Shillington only to discover the bank next door was to be vacated as well. Again, hard working board members and volunteers succeeded in gathering private financial donations needed to purchase and renovate the facility. In July 2002 the library moved into the former Fulton/Great Valley bank building at 6 Philadelphia Avenue in Shillington.
