Mission: To promote responsible humane behavior toward animals. Purpose: To serve Berks County through education and outreach in the community, medical services for needy animals, humane investigation, safe shelter for homeless animals, and strong adoptioin programs to ensure that every companion animal lives in a safe, loving and secure home.
Description:
The Humane Society of Berks County is an integral part of the the community. It serves the homeless and injured animals through adoption programs, low cost spay and neutering, humane education and outreach, cruelty and neglect prevention and investigations and emergency pet foster care for community groups such as the Berks Women In Crisis PetNet program.
History:
The Humane Society of Berks County began it's charter in 1900. It was originally housed in the back of the Library on S. 5th St. and moved to several locations before settling at its current location on N. 11th St. in 1954. In 1995, the building went through renovations and expansions to further serve its growing need in the community.
