History:
Planned Parenthood recognizes the value of staying ahead of the curve through innovation and smart financial management to sustain long-term growth. For this reason, we are thrilled to share with you the announcement of the formation of Planned Parenthood of Northeast and Mid-Penn (PPNMP.) This newly formed affiliate is the product of the merger of Planned Parenthood of North East Pennsylvania (PPNEP) and Planned Parenthood of the Susquehanna Valley (PPSV.) Our journey to this junction started over a year ago when we were presented with an opportunity to collaborate with a sister affiliate based out of Harrisburg, Planned Parenthood of the Susquehanna Valley (PPSV.) We began to share resources and staffing in the Community Education and Finance Departments. Doing this allowed both affiliates to capitalize on the skills of the professional staff overseeing these departments and to streamline operations. These collaborations have achieved the desired result; efficiencies have been realized in our administrative functions and services and expertise added that would not have been possible otherwise. Recognizing the success of these initiatives led to more discussion about the best way to continue to enhance services to our patients and build a stronger platform to fulfill the mission of Planned Parenthood. Both PPNEP and PPSV have outstanding reputations, stable finances, a growing patient base, and solid support in our communities. We also share an understanding that we have a responsibility to expand access to affordable reproductive health care and family planning services. The Board of Directors of both affiliates voted in February 2008 to begin a due diligence process to explore consolidation of the two affiliates. On May 27, 2008, both Boards unanimously approved a Resolution to Merge, to become effective July 1, 2008.
