The American Lung Association works to prevent lung disease and promote lung health through research, education and advocacy.

Our Vision- A world free of lung disease!

Description:
The American Lung Association believes that everyone has the right to breath freely. Tobacco, dirty air, asthma, emphysema and other lung diseases make this impossible for millions of Americans. That's why we raise money to fund research, advocate for cleaner air and educate people to quit smoking or never start and better manage their asthma and COPD. Across America we are improving life, one breath at a time.

History:
The first voluntary society in the United States organized to fight tuberculosis was in PA. The PA Society for the prevention of Tuberculosis was founded in 1892 by Dr. Lawrence F. Flick of Philadelphia. Upon Dr. Flick's suggestion, a meeting was held to discuss the formation of a single organization to address the country-wide problem of TB. Out of this meeting came the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis, which today is so proudly known as the American Lung Association.

Founded in 1892, to fight tuberculosis, American Lung Association of PA today fights lung disease in all its forms, with special emphasis on asthma, tobacco control and environmental health. For over 100 years, this health organization has been dedicated to preventing lung disease and promoting lung health through research, education and advocacy and community service.
